On Sunday, December 20, ThatBoxingWriter.com will open up a voting ballot for the 2015 Boxing End of the Year Reader’s Choice Awards. I want all readers to make sure to visit the site at noon to place their votes. But in the meantime, I will get some debates started on several of the award categories. Let’s start with candidates for the worst fight of the year.
In May, Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally fought Manny Pacquiao. Fight fans waited years for this fight to finally come into fruition, but when it came, it fell desperately short of expectations.
Many thought that Pacquiao’s speed and action style would provide Mayweather with a challenge. They didn’t. Pacquiao only landed 81 punches on Mayweather. This might not have been the worst fight to watch, but it definitely was a big let down.
Another fight that was hard on the eyes was Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury. The battle for the majority share of the heavyweight title saw more feinting and holding than punching. Fury and Klitschko only landed a combined 138 punches. The average amount of punches landed per round was about 12. That number is just pathetic.
Was there a fight that you thought was worse than either of these? Let me know and be sure to visit us on Sunday, December 20 at noon to vote on this category and more.
