Welcome to my new boxing blog. It is an exciting time in the sport of boxing. We are one day away from the fight of the new century. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao had their weigh-in today. Both were slightly under the 147 lb weight limit, which isn’t surprising. Mayweather weighed 146 lbs to Pacquiao’s 145 lbs. This isn’t surprising either.
Many media outlets are trying to make a big deal out of Mayweather’s 1 lb weight advantage, but it’s all media fight hype. Mayweather is naturally bigger than Pacquiao. Pacquiao has faced much larger opponents than Mayweather.
In 2010, Pacquiao fought and destroyed Antonio Margarito who weighed 165 lbs on fight night. Despite being the bigger man, Margarito lost a lopsided decision and suffered a broken orbital bone in the process. Weight and size are not going to be big factors in this fight. Fighting style and speed are the biggest factors that will govern the outcome of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.
